Kindergarten Graduation

Okay so kindergarten graduation might be a little much for some people - they graduate from preschool - grade 7, grade 10 and if we're lucky grade12! But know what, I loved kindergarten graduation for Ethan. You see, I was rarely in Ethan's classroom - the teacher only used parents for special events so I never saw his everyday stuff so it was a treat to be the classroom and to see him with his mates and his teacher. The kids came in to the grad song with their little caps on, the teacher said a few things about the year - it was so good to hear her gush about the kids b/c on the whole she is a various serious teacher (with the parents) and then the kids sang about 10 little songs which was awesome to hear. After they received their diplomas we had loads of snacks and played in the playground. I wasn't emotional until his actual last morning the next day - I started to think about how Ethan is growing up so quickly. I think with him growing up I'm worried about missing the cuddles - let me tell you I'm going to take advantage of them for as long as I can! Ethan ended up enjoying kindergarten and the funny thing is that he hardly ever said anything in french to us but now he is coming up to me with words and telling me what they mean.

Happy 60th Mom!

Well, my mom turned 60 on June 25th and we had a dinner party for her. Back in November in Whistler, for my Dad's 60th, my mom said she was fine just going away with the family and not having a birthday party. I thought phew, for a moment and then as I thought about it I knew she would be disappointed if something else wasn't done. So, I phoned up my Auntie Evie and we had a little chat. Auntie Evie had already been thinking about it and thought that an intimate dinner party would be good - I thought so too. So I did my big part and phoned a few people and Auntie Evie did the rest. She was amazing!! Auntie Evie did the invites, decorations and food.

So, the party was last Saturday evening. There were 8 of us altogether and it was a surprise. My mom thought they were going out for dinner with Auntie Evie and Uncle Ken but really it was a party for her. The evening began with some appy's and then the most delicious dinner ever!!! We had an awesome salad, then wild rice, asparagus and chicken wrapped in phyllo pastry. It was soooooo good!! The dinner conversation with a bunch of ladies who are pushing 60 can be rather interesting - from death, to dementia to hmmm, I can't remember what else. We then moved into the living room for my mom to open up presents. My mom received a list of things she needs to do now that she is sixty and the ladies laughed so hard! (the list was funny) We had yummy cheesecake with strawberries - chatted some more about interesting 60 year old topics and then the evening was over. I thought I would be home by 10 at the latest but nope they know how to live it up and I wasn't in until closer to 11:30. It was a great time. My mom (I think) really enjoyed herself. Auntie Evie did a fabulous job. Thank-you!:) Oh, we are still going away as a family to Whistler this summer - can't wait, it'll be so much fun.

Boys will be boys

It's interesting being the mom of boys. I was never a tomboy - I didn't care about bugs, dirt , climbing trees but I'm finding that I now have to be interested in these types of things. I suddenly have to find snails to be the most interesting creatures around (we found 17 live ones on the way home from school one day this week, 4 dead ones and 3 in our back yard). I suddenly have to enjoy catching tadpoles (which Ethan at 5 1/2 is already better at than me). I suddenly have to not be squeamish that there may be cat/dog poop in a pile of sand and let them at it. I suddenly can't be nervous going down steep inclines in the woods b/c even though the boys love to explore they sometimes need encouragement to go down or up something a little steep. I suddenly have to be interested in taking care of ants or any other creature that may be in danger of being stepped on. And if I'm honest with you all - this is all fun. I think some of my favourite moments with the boys is when they are fascinated with nature - when they find enjoyment in the smallest things and entertain themselves for many minutes with just dirt and a shovel. I'll post some pictures when blogger lets me.

Hanging out!

I took the boys to Chuck E Cheese today - they had a lot of fun. It was not busy and the tokens (with a coupon) are pretty resonable. Christian loved the cars, Aiden and Ethan loved everything. They each picked out a little toy with their coupons.

Ethan wanted my parents and nana to come too so they met us there. The first picture on this post is Christian at Choo Choos - a restaurant in Langley. It has great burgers - it's in the Entertainment book and the kids have a wide variety of trains to chose from and to play with at the table.

The boys at bedtime - cuddling under our pillows. Ethan and Aiden had haircuts yesterday (I know you're jealous Rich) but I couldn't shave off Christian's curls (plus the grandmas would have killed me). These boys can be so cute! I love them so much. It's amazing that I can say that after being with them by myself for 4 days so far.

Best teachers Ever!

This is a picture of Ethan at his Sunday School kindergarten graduation. It was very cute. The kids sang one of their songs and then they each received a certificate for memory verses. Esther and Kirsten were fabulous teachers. They did so many special things for the kids throughout the year. I'm sad that they won't be teaching next year with the kindergartens - maybe they will again by the time Aiden gets there.
